Ozzfest Has A Special Announcement Coming Soon… Do We Dare To Dream?

The good folks at Ozzfest have a “very special announcement” coming soon. We know this because they told us so:

And while it’s more than likely something completely unexciting for those of us whose water goes down the drain anti-clockwise, we can’t help but wonder if maybe… just maybe… could there be a slight chance that Ozzfest might finally be coming Down Under?

The timing is definitely right, with a huge hole left in Australia’s hard rock and heavy metal festival scene courtesy of Soundwave’s cancellation earlier this year (which has only been slightly plugged back up again by the birth of Legion fest).

Add to that, the Ozzy Osbourne-founded metal extravaganza – which has been running throughout the US and Europe on and off for two decades – only recently expanded to Japan in 2013, which is basically just a stone’s throw away from our shores.

Case in point: many of the artists who grace the bill at Japan’s annual Fuji Rock festival also end up coming to Australia for Splendour In The Grass, so it isn’t too much of a stretch to imagine that – should Ozzfest Japan take place in 2016 – its artists might be keen to make the most out of their Asia-Pacific trek with an added stop Down Under?

And with last year’s lineup featuring the likes of Korn, Jane’s Addiction, Bullet for My Valentine, A Day to Remember, Hatebreed, Black Label Society, Corey Taylor, Babymetal and an “Ozzy and Friends” supergroup featuring The Prince Of Darkness himself, his Black Sabbath bandmate Geezer Butler, plus Tom Morello, Dave Navarro, Zakk Wylde, and Funassyi, it’s pretty safe to assume that Aussie fans would lose their shit just about enough to make the event a success.

Hell, it’d even be worth it just for the inevitable shouts of “Ozzy Ozzy Ozzy! Oi Oi Oi!”

Anyway, while we could very likely just be going off the rails on a crazy train here, we’re not going to give up hope on Ozzfest Down Under until they tell us so. Because c’mon, crazier things have happened.

Nobody ever thought the godfather of heavy metal would one day become the world’s biggest reality TV star, either.
