Paul Weller Covers The Beatles’ ‘Birthday’ For Sir Paul McCartney’s 70th Birthday

Paul Weller has given one of his musical idols Sir Paul McCartney a birthday gift – covering one of the band’s songs.

Weller has released a new cover of The Beatles’ Birthday today to help celebrate Sir Paul’s 70th birthday. All proceeds from the sale of Weller’s cover go to international relief charity War Child.

Birthday was first released by the Fab Four in 1968 and was the opening track on the second disc of The Beatles’ The White Album.

Weller told NME: “It’s my own little tribute to the man who, along with the rest of The Beatles, got me into music in the first place”.

McCartney confirmed to BBC radio last week that he would be performing at the end of the opening ceremony of the London Olympic Games on July 27.
