Pearl Jam For Australian Tour Early 2014?

Having just announced a North American tour, Seattle grunge gods Pearl Jam are hot contenders to play a series of Australian shows either late in 2013 or early 2014, with rumours flying of Eddie Vedder and company hitting our shores in time for the summer festival season.

UPDATE: New Pearl Jam single ‘Mind Your Manners’ is here!!!

It’s pretty much a sure thing, according to Triple M music reporter Nui Te Koha, who said, “Pearl Jam is back on the tour radar for early next year. There are several promoters trying to lure them down here. I dare say they will be very successful. Pearl Jam love it down here.”

We’re still taking that one with a grain of salt – Te Koha loves a rumour and has been known to get it wrong in the past, with some of his way-off predictions including Blink-182 and Limp Bizkit for Big Day Out 2010, Blink and Prince at BDO 2012 and The Black Keys for Splendour 2012.

If the tour does eventuate, however, it’s set to be a huge one, marking the first time PJ have made it Down Under since their hugely popular 2009 tour, though Vedder himself gave us an extensive run of solo dates back in 2011.

What is for certain is new Pearl Jam tunes on the horizon, with the grunge stalwarts confirming that their brand-new single is indeed called Mind Your Manners, giving truth to the long-circling rumours. The song has been described as “punk” – vague much? – and has raised comparisons to their 1994 hit Spin The Black Circle from those who’ve heard it.

Mind Your Manners will have its Australian premiere on radio this Friday and as for a full-length album, the yet-to-be-named follow-up to 2009’s Backspacer is scheduled for release this October.
