Things are looking pretty grim for the Perth festival scene as Boutique festival CIRCÓ has announced that it will not go ahead in 2015.
It’s another blow for the state which continues to lose festivals. Two of the WA’s biggest festivals – Future Music and Big Day Out – have been cancelled nationally and Soundwave skipped Perth in this year with no plans to return.
CIRCÓ organisers took to Facebook explaining, “As the final parts of the lineup and stage setups were piecing together we were left looking at something that had shifted too far from what we wanted.”
CIRCÓ first started in 2013 with massive results, moving 1000 tickets in the first hour. Last year it returned with a mighty lineup that included Bloc Party-frontman Kele, Violent Soho, Nina Las Vegas, The Kite String Tangle and more.
As expressed on their Facebook CIRCÓ endeavoured to deliver a “world beating audio & visual festival.”
Taking into consideration the current climate of music festival’s in Western Australia CIRCÓ wrote, “After witnessing the collapse of so many festivals, and not wanting to take this event to an early grave, we made the painfully difficult decision to postpone the 2015 event, and with wheels already in motion to make 2016 the event we have in our dreams and that you deserve.”
Despite losing a number of key music festivals in the past few years, WA still has a number of events to look forward too. West Coast Blues N’ Roots and Southbound Festival still manage to pull big international names in the earlier parts of the year.
There’s a slight positive in all of this. CIRCÓ announced that they would be putting on a number of single events instead and yesterday they announced their first one. Porter Robinson will be bringing his his Worlds tour to Perth with Wave Racer and Cosmo’s Midnight.
