Radio 1‘s legendary EDM maestro Pete Tong has announced he will play two sideshows in Melbourne and Sydney while in the country to spin at the 2014 Australian Open. He will play at Fabrique in Melbourne on Friday 17 January and Marquee in Sydney on Saturday 18 January, just hours after completing his Australian Open set.
Perhaps best recognised as the man behind BBC Radio 1’s Essential Selection and its Essential Mix series, Tong is one of the biggest names in dance music having ruled the genre for the better part of three decades.
Aside from gracing the decks of clubs and festivals worldwide, Tong has assembled the music for movie soundtracks such as The Beach, Human Traffic and 24 Hour Party People and has produced his own material under various guises. He was also just given an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) in the 2014 New Year Honours for services to broadcasting and music.
