Peter Bibby Announces New Album ‘Drama King’, Shares Australian Tour Dates

Perth singer-songwriter Peter Bibby has shared details of his fourth studio album Drama King, sharing both a new single and a run of album launch tour dates across the country across May and June 2024. The album, which arrives roughly four years after his last album Marge, is set for release on Friday May 31st via Spinning Top Records.

To coincide with the album’s announcement, Bibby has released ‘The Arsehole’. It marks the second track to be lifted from the album, with ‘The One’ pre-empting the announcement back in October 2023. “The words are at times self reflective, at other times accusatory, but all the time really good at hinting at the fact that, maybe, we’re all just a pack of arseholes,” said Bibby about the song in a press statement. A music video has also been shared for the song, directed by Tim Barretto, which can be viewed below.

Bibby recorded Drama King with former Drones guitarist Dan Luscombe serving as producer, marking the first time that Bibby has worked with an outside producer on his own material. “I prepared for it knowing that my songs were going to get chopped up and shortened,” said Bibby on working with Luscombe, whose production credits also include Amyl & The Sniffers‘ breakthrough 2021 album Comfort to Me and Courtney Barnett‘s 2015 debut Sometimes I Sit And Think, And Sometimes I Just Sit.

“I’m glad I did, because for the most part, Dan was like, ‘oh, you’ve already solved every problem I had with these’. He was completely underselling himself, because he shaped and sculpted every song on the record into a far more beautiful and articulate thing than I could have on my own.”

To support the release of the album, Bibby will tour later this year with his backing band, the Big Horse Band. As of November 2023, the band is composed of guitarist/backing vocalist Carla Geneve, bassist Eldar ‘Edo’ Ekic and drummer Mitch McDonald. The tour will begin with a month-long Thursday residency at Fremantle venue the Buffalo Club in May, before the band heads to the east coast the following month.
