Photos, 911 calls and a police report from the night of Chris Cornell‘s death have been released.
The City Of Detroit — where Cornell died in a hotel room in May — has released an investigative report into the Soundgarden and Audioslave frontman’s tragic death.
A 911 call (below) supposedly placed by an employee of the MGM Grand Detroit hotel at 12:56am includes the employee reporting a “non-responsive guest… inside of room 1136”.
“He’s not breathing?” the 911 operator asks.
“No,” the caller says.
74 photos from Cornell’s hotel room have also been released, including the red exercise band found in his suite’s bathroom, canisters of prescription medication, plane tickets and the broken door lock from the bodyguard’s forced entrance. Cornell was found unresponsive in his hotel suite’s bathroom in the hours after Soundgarden’s show at the nearby Fox Theatre.
According to the investigative report, Cornell’s bodyguard Martin Kirsten kicked open the door to Cornell’s hotel room after security personnel refused to open the door, which came after urgent telephone calls from Cornell’s wife, Vicky.
“I went inside and the bathroom door was partially opened and I could see his foot,” Kirsten told Detroit police in a statement.
Cornell was found on the floor in the bathroom with a band around his neck, and Kirsten supposedly loosened the band before trying to resuscitate the singer.
The Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office has ruled Cornell’s death a suicide by hanging, and his autopsy revealed multiple prescription drugs in his system, although they supposedly “did not contribute to the cause of death”.
Last month, Vicky Cornell gave her first interview since her husband’s death, and said that he “didn’t want to die”.
