Police “Pleased” With Listen Out Festival Crowd, Despite Some Arrests

Listen Out began its national run over the weekend, with punters in Perth and Melbourne getting the first taste of what this year’s lineup has to offer.

With all the discussion around festivals and drug use at the moment, following two deaths at Defqon.1 in Sydney and NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian’s controversial comments on the matter, it might come as a pleasant surprise to find that the start of Listen Out has been relatively tame in that respect.

The Victorian Police Force released a statement, saying that they were “pleased” with the crowd at the Melbourne leg of Listen Out, which occurred yesterday.

“About 18,000 people attended the ‘Listen Out’ music festival in St Kilda,” reads a statement given by Victoria Police.

“Thirty people were arrested during a PAD dog operation. Twenty nine of those people were issued with a diversion notice.”

“A 40-year-old male from Keilor Park was charged with trafficking cocaine and released pending summons.”

While the Perth leg of Listen Out is on right now, the WA Police Force did release a statement on Friday that, following the events of Defqon.1, they’ll be taking drug use very seriously and there would be drug detection dogs, as well as both uniformed and plain-clothed police officers.

This follows a similar warning that Victoria Police Force gave on Friday, as well.

Listen Out will tackle Brisbane and Sydney this coming weekend, headlined by the likes of A$AP Rocky, Skrillex, Skepta and Brockhampton.
