Police Warn Festival-Goers Of Drug Dog Operation At Listen Out This Weekend

Police have warned festival-goers they’ll be “out in force” at Listen Out this weekend, supported by a drug dog operation.

The festival will take place in Melbourne and Perth this weekend before heading to Sydney and Brisbane next weekend, and Victoria Police is expecting around 18,000 people to attend the festival in St Kilda’s Catani Gardens this Saturday.

Last year’s Melbourne leg of Listen Out saw 19 people handed drug diversions and three people receive cannabis cautions, while a man was also caught with Vegemite-covered drugs strapped to his penis.

Police said they were “disappointed” by the number of people allegedly found with drugs at the event.

Speaking about this year’s festival, Victoria Police Inspector Jason Kelly said, “Police will monitor the festival for any anti-social behaviour and alcohol related issues to ensure that everyone can enjoy the event safely.

“We also want to remind everyone to keep an eye on your mates and make sure they are enjoying themselves in a safe and responsible manner.”

“We encourage people to attend the event, but do so in a legal, responsible manner. For those who don’t, police will be there.”

Police say they’ll be “on the lookout for anti-social behaviour and alcohol-related issues when patrons are leaving the festival”, and will also have “a visible presence at nearby licensed venues”.

Western Australia Police Force is yet to publicly comment on its plans for Listen Out, which will hit Western Parklands on Sunday, 23rd September.

This year’s Listen Out lineup is headlined by Skrillex, Skepta and A$AP Rocky. Peep all the official set times right here.
