A one-of-a-kind black and white painting of Brit-pop icons Oasis has been stolen from a Manchester art gallery and the Greater Manchester Police are asking fans for any information on the theft, using actual song titles in their appeal.
Report NME, the canvas painting, by artist Olga Tsarevska Lomax, was stolen between 4.45am and 5.15am on Monday, 27th October, when the assailants smashed the window of the Art Gallery and Gift Shop in Bury, Manchester.
Police suspect the theft might have been carried out by Oasis fans, or at least think that fans might have some knowledge about it, and so in their appeal for information, PC Katherine Gosling craftily references two Oasis songs, 1998’s The Masterplan and 1995’s Some Might Say.
“Quite what the master plan behind this theft is I don’t know, but a local business has been broken into and a one of a kind piece of art work taken,” reads the clever statement.
“This was the only piece taken and some might say we are therefore looking for an Oasis fan – similarly it may have been stolen to order. Regardless we are keen to find it and return it.”
“If you have any information about the person responsible, have seen the artwork or are offered it, please get in touch.” The painting is reportedly inscribed with “otz2013” on the bottom right hand corner.
The theft comes just days after the announced disbandment of Liam Gallagher’s Beady Eye which has since spurred the usual Oasis reunion rumours, despite Liam’s big bro Noel Gallagher’s comments to MTV this month, when he stated definitively, “I’m fucking looking forward to spoiling everybody’s party next year. We won’t be doing it.”
