Post Malone Thought Blake Shelton’s ‘Austin’ Was About Him

Post Malone grew up thinking that Blake Shelton’s hit song “Austin” was about him. The 29-year-old rapper, whose real name is Austin Richard Post, revealed to Blake that his mom once told him the 2001 song was written for him. Post Malone’s mother was a big country music fan, while his father preferred rock, shaping his musical tastes.

In a recent interview with American Songwriter, Blake Shelton shared this quirky detail and added that he’s never asked Post Malone why he chose him for their collaboration. Blake, who is married to Gwen Stefani, admitted he’s never questioned Post’s choice, saying he’s simply proud to be part of the project.

He also mentioned that Post Malone, who grew up in Texas, has always had a deep appreciation for country music. Blake believes Post has long wanted to make a country album, which is reflected in his new record, F-1 Trillion.

The album, a follow-up to Post’s 2023 release Austin, includes singles like “I Had Some Help” featuring Morgan Wallen and “Guy For That” with Luke Combs. Blake Shelton expressed his excitement about Post’s foray into country music, saying it’s clear the artist has been eager to explore this genre.
