Buoyant London alt-pop duo Marcus Pepperell and John Hamson Jr, known to fans as Thumpers, are preparing to drop their debut album Galore this March, filled to the brim with colourful melodies, booming drums and glimmering production. The eager pair have also released the brand new video for the track Unkinder (A Tougher Love), which we’re premiering right here on Music Feeds!
Long time friends, vocalist Pepperell and drummer Hamson Jr. (who had a brief touring stint with Friendly Fires) were once collectively known as Pull Tiger Tail, their previous band. Now producing tunes under the tittke of Thumpers, the duo create colourful, exuberant alt-pop that combines layered vocals and off-kilter drums with soaring, euphoric synths.
Initially exchanging ideas over long distance correspondence, they used breaks from travel and other projects for intensive, marathon recording sessions. They eventually retreated to the familiar surroundings of their hometown to self-produce the album, in tandem with David Kosten (Bat for Lashes, Everything Everything).
The visual feast that is the kaleidoscopic video for Unkinder (A Tougher Love) perfectly compliments the song’s colourful sound. Colours and shapes bound across the screen as the bouncing duo roll out their exalting lyrics. And while we’re not exactly sure just what they’re saying during that chorus, their excitement and the melody’s exuberant vibe is undeniably catchy.
Thumpers are already supporting the likes of CHVRCHES and Everything Everything on world stages and are in the midst of an extensive European tour.
