A Queensland venue has apologised after a number of The Amity Affliction fans were turned away from one of the group’s concerts last week, because they were wearing singlets.
Townsville’s Dalrymple Hotel hosted The Amity Affliction on Thursday night, 19th January, as part of the band’s current Death To Misery Tour. Following the show, reports surfaced on social media that punters were turned away from the venue for rocking up in their tank tops.
Justin Fimmel, the drummer of Ghosts Over Japan (who supported Amity’s Townsville show), took to Facebook following the gig to say he was “just a little bit disappointed and frustrated that the Daly recently updated their ‘dress code’ and turned back paying punters in singlets at a metal show”.
Now, in a statement to Music Feeds, Dalrymple Hotel says it is changing its dress code, and “would like to unreservedly apologise to the customers for the misunderstanding”.
“The venue’s dress code (which includes no singlets and no thongs during concerts) has been in place for many years,” the venue says. “In light of recent events, we have reviewed this dress code policy, and have made the decision to allow singlets to be worn at future concerts.”
There were also reports of concert-goers experiencing heat exhaustion during the show, which Dalrymple Hotel has put down to a dodgy air conditioner.
“We did experience an issue with the air conditioning unit on the night. This is being addressed as a matter of importance,” the venue says.
The Amity Affliction’s Death To Misery Tour, which comes in support of their latest album This Could Be Heartbreak, continues in Coffs Harbour on Wednesday, before heading to Newcastle, Wollongong, Canberra, Frankston, Geelong and Hobart.
