Emerging rapper Lil Peep has reportedly died at age 21.
Artists have begun paying tribute to the rapper who was due to perform in California today.
The news was first reported by his friend and collaborator Mikey Cortez who posted a picture of Peep on Instagram writing, “I’m completely heart broken and lost right now. I can’t even feel it’s not real. I love you and I’ll miss you always. One of the realest.”
His manager Chase Ortega also wrote on Twitter around the same time, “I’ve been expecting this call for a year. Mother fuck.”
Peep had a huge following online, initially growing his fanbase on Soundcloud. He’s released numerous EPs and mixtapes and also clocked up plenty of views on his YouTube channel.
This year, he released his debut album Come Over When You’re Sober, Pt.1.
Artists including Post Malone, Lil Yachty, Lil B and Marshmello have since paid their respects to Peep on Twitter.
“In the short time that I knew you, you were a great friend to me and a great person,” Malone wrote, alongside a picture.
“Your music changed the world and it’ll never be the same. I love you bud. Forever.”
The cause of death is unknown at this stage.
