The Australian music community is honouring pioneering local producer DJ Kuya (real name Arsenio Fabay) who passed away this week.
The death of the three-time Victorian DMC State champion has been confirmed by his label The Operatives, who took to Facebook to break the sad news to fans.
“Today is a tough day for all of us at the ops camp,” they write.
“We send our deepest love to DJ Kuya’s family and friends. A true general has fallen and we are devastated. Kuya we love you bro. So much. U will be missed.”
Fabay had earned a reputation as one of Australia’s most innovative and original DJs over his near 30-year career, which saw him share the stage with the likes of Public Enemy, Gaslamp Killer and DJ Krush.
He claimed the Australian ITF DJ title in 1999, and released his debut EP Dark Days last year.
Tributes to the respected artist have been flooding in from the likes of Briggs, Doc Felix and many more of his musical peers.

REST IN PEACE to a good mate, DJ Kuya. A huge blow to the tight knit O.G. scratch DJ community here in Australia. We lost a good guy and very talented human today. #DJKUYA https://t.co/X3PEmSIOId
