RÜFÜS Change Their Name Ahead Of New Album, Drop New Song ‘No Place’

Australian electronic legends RÜFÜS have finally given us an atmospheric new song in ‘No Place’, but not before embracing a new band name.

After having two albums — Atlas and Bloom — both hitting the #1 spot on the ARIA Album Charts, RÜFÜS have officially changed their name to RÜFÜS DU SOL. It’s actually the name the band have been using in the US following a trademark dispute in 2014, but, speaking to triple j, they said they were sick “of the banter between the two characters”.

“I guess we don’t really know any other bands that have two names throughout the entire world so it just seemed fitting,” said lead vocalist Tyrone Lindqvist. “You can call us whatever you want, most people still call us RÜFÜS [for short].”

The new track ‘No Place’ is a glorious return to form for the Sydney trio, complete with silky smooth vocals, infectious bass drops and an overall summery feel that they’ve become the master of.

‘No Place’ is the first single from the band’s upcoming third album, which was recorded in Venice, California. The album is apparently largely influenced by the desert landscapes of California and life on the road.

“It feels like a new RÜFÜS,” the trio said in a statement. “We are inspired by our new home out here, by the people we’ve met and the music we’ve heard along the way. We’ve got a refreshed sense of ambition and cannot wait to share our creation with the world.”

No word on an actual release date for the follow up to Bloom, but rest assured their third album will be out this year.
