Sam Fender, known for his hit “Getting Started,” surprised fans with the debut of two new tracks, “People Watching” and “Nostalgia’s Lie,” at an intimate concert in Plymouth Pavilions, southwest England, on Saturday (August 3, 2024). This special performance served as a warm-up for his upcoming headline set at the Boardmasters festival in Cornwall this weekend.
The 30-year-old musician teased his fans on social media after the concert, hinting at more live shows soon. He posted on X (formerly Twitter), “Wow, that was rapid. More dates coming soon x.”

Sam’s second album, “Seventeen Going Under,” was released in 2021, following his debut, “Hypersonic Missiles,” in 2019. He has taken a more thoughtful approach to his third album, ensuring it meets his high standards. On Sky Arts ‘Johnson and Knopfler’s Music Legends,’ Sam explained, “We have been recording and making loads of stuff but it got to the point where I thought, ‘We don’t need to get this out yet. We need to get it right.’”
He emphasized the importance of quality over speed, stating, “I’d rather it be late and great than early and s**.”
Reflecting on his past, Sam attributed his drive to succeed to the bullying he experienced in school. He said, “Schoolyard bullying is what makes a rock star. It is either going to put you down or it is going to make you work harder for it.”
Though often compared to Bruce Springsteen, Sam prefers to be recognized for his unique style, acknowledging his musical influences while striving to be true to himself.
