Santa Cruz hardcore favourites Scowl are getting ready to wallop us in the eardrums with a brand new album. Their forthcoming sophomore LP, dubbed Are We All Angels, is set to land on Friday, 4th April 2025.
The news comes spiced with a fresh cut of the record, in the form of the incendiary grunge-infused ‘Not Heaven, Not Hell’, conceptualised a sonic middle-finger to the cultural narratives cast onto Scowl by outsiders.
Scowl – ‘Not Hell, Not Heaven’
“It’s about feeling victimised and being a victim, but not wanting to identify with being a victim,” powerhouse vocalist Kat Moss explains. “It’s trying to find grace in the fact that I have my power. I live in my reality. You have to deal with whatever you’re dealing with, and it ain’t working for me.”
Produced by the iconic Will Yip (Turnstile, Title Fight, Mannequin Pussy), Are We All Angels finds the boundary-smashing band fine-tuning their aggression and venom with a renewed sense of identity and power. It explores themes of alienation, grief, and the loss of control, particularly in relation to their newfound place in the global hardcore scene.
