It’s been more 15 years since 90s indie giants Sebadoh journeyed over to these shores, but the wait appears to be over, with Lou Barlow taking advantage of a little time off from Dinosaur Jr to regroup his troops and head out on tour.
The dates are scheduled for September, with only four announced. They will play in Perth, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. The tour is designed to promote the reissue of Sebadoh’s vital two 90s album, Bakesale (1994) and Harmacy (1996). The remastered LPs will be released later this year.
Sebadoh’s last studio album was 1999’s The Sebadoh, released in the same year that the band last played in Australia as part of the Livid Festival. Barlow, however, performed an unannounced acoustic set at the Golden Plains Festival last year, during which he did wheel out some old Sebadoh tunes.
Sebadoh formed in 1987 as a vehicle for Barlow, who became frustrated at J.Mascis’s domination of Dinosaur Jr, the band the two formed together in 1984. Barlow left Dinosaur Jr in some acrimony in 1989 to concentrate on Sebadoh, only to rejoin the band in 2005.
