Security “Bashing Little Kids” At Soundwave Melbourne

Although it got off to a rough start, things at Melbourne Soundwave Festival 2013 has managed to come together pretty nicely for now, though it hasn’t been without its hiccups along the way. Now that the festival is well and truly in afternoon mode, AJ Maddah has unleashed a flood of hate towards Virgin, the train lines may be beginning to snag and Northlane have slammed security for being too hands-on with their fans.

Having “fucked” Mindless Self Indulgence this morning, Virgin Airlines has come under fire from the Soundwave promoter and the band’s fans who have missed out on the festival performance as MSI’s bags and equipment rocked up way too late. Maddah seems pretty pissed, tweeting “Feel free to express your feelings to @VirginAustralia and their very unhelpful staff. Thank you in advance.” Which, by the way, was dripping in sarcasm.

For those who made it down for Northlane, it was a bit of a rough experience. According to a post from the band’s Facebook, “security were bashing little kids and being thugs”. The band’s manager has footage of it all going down, which has apparently been shown to Soundwave organisers, who have assured the band that the security guards in question will be ripped to shreds.

Gates opened late this morning but punters have wasted no time at all getting into the festival grounds, to the point where Melbourne trains have begun to wig out a little. According to Melbourneway‘s Twitter account, “Backlog of Flemington & Werribee/Williamstown trains up to Southern Cross,” hashtagging Soundwave as the culprit.

But, look, let’s be realistic – things are never going to go smoothly at any festival and, aside from a few snags, the sold-out Soundwave is shaping up to be a smashing success. Touch wood.
