The first photo of Johnny Flynn as David Bowie in the upcoming film Stardust is here.
Flynn, who you may know from the 2017 film Beast or the adaptation of Vanity Fair, portrays Bowie in the unauthorised film, which tells the story of Bowie in the early 70s, embarking on his first road trip to America and crafting his Ziggy Stardust alter-ego.
Here’s the shot, taken by the film’s producer Paul Van Carter.
Also confirmed for the film are Marc Maron playing Bowie’s publicist, along with Jena Malone as Bowie’s first wife, Angie Jones.
The film has already received its share of controversy, with Bowie’s son Duncan Jones claiming it doesn’t come with his family’s blessings. “If you want to see a biopic without his music or the family’s blessing, that’s up to the audience,” Jones tweeted back in February.
In a statement, Stardust‘s producers have clarified that the film is not a biopic, calling it an “origins story” and “moment in time film”, saying it is “not reliant” on the music of Bowie.
