Shadows Fall Guitarist Jon Donais Joins Anthrax For Soundwave

Anthrax have called up a dude they describe as “a total fucking ripper” to fill in for their upcoming live shows in the first half of 2013.

Shadows Fall guitarist Jon Donais is joining the band, filling the hole left by Rob Caggiano, who quit Anthrax at the end of 2012, after 12 years with the group.

In a statement, lead guitarist Scott Ian said that he was stoked to have Jon join the group as “he tears it up” on stage.

“Jon is a bro and he’s also a total fucking ripper. I’ve worked with him twice before on side projects and he tears it up. I’m excited to have him on my right burning up the stage with Anthrax. 13′s gonna be a good year.”

Donais said he initially received a phone call from Caggiano to suss out his interest in taking his spot in the band.

“I grew up on Anthrax, they’re the thrash scene, they’re one of The Big Four, I’d be crazy to not want to play with them,” Donais said.

“Initially, Rob called and told me he was leaving the band, and asked if I’d be interested in filling in. Then Scott called me and everything fell into place.

“Rob and I are using Skype to work on solos and other guitar parts, so he’s being great. I also have to give special thanks to my band – Brian, Matt, Jason and Ed – who have been incredibly supportive and encouraged me to do this.”

Anthrax will be in Australia for Soundwave in February and March, and for a one-off sideshow in Brisbane on February 21.
