Singer – 1 Of 4 Arrested Following Tragic Brazil Nightclub Fire

Accoding to a BBC report (Via 405) 4 arrests have been made in the wake of the Kiss nightclub fire that left 231 students dead and more than 100 injured. Those arrested include the singer of the band who were performing, as well as two of the venue’s co-owners and the head of security for the nightclub.

Mercelo Santon, vocalist from the band Gurizada Fandangueira, has been arrested after it was deemed that he had control at some level over the pyrotechnic machine that the band were using, which they refer to as ‘Sputnik’. At this point in time, police are arguing that a spark from the machine ignited material in the roof, which resulted in the entire room becoming a fiery death trap.

The band’s guitarist has defended his band since the news broke, stating that the equipment they use is ‘harmless’, and he claimed that a security guard handed a fire extinguisher to the vocalist when the fire started, but that the extinguisher didn’t work.

One of the co-owners turned himself in to police after the blaze and has since been questioned. The venue’s head of security is under scrutiny after it was alleged that bouncers stopped people from leaving the venue as they were unaware of the fire and suspected people were leaving without paying their bills.

The club was hosting a night for local students of the area. Most of the deceased are said to be aged between 16 and 20.

More details as they come.
