Slipknot To Begin “Major” Work On New Album Next Month

Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor has confirmed that the band are moving on from the recent departure of drummer Joey Jordison and will begin “major” work on their new album in March. Taylor said the US metal band have 17 demos to take into the studio.

In a new interview with Kerrang! (via NME), Taylor promised fans a mix of two of their most-loved albums. “I can say that, to me – and this is only my opinion – it’s a cross between Iowa and Volume 3…, but that’s honestly just scratching the surface,” says Taylor. “I think the fans are going to be very, very excited when they hear this stuff.”

Taylor said he used the band’s recent contentious history as inspiration for the new material, resulting in what he thinks will be a new conceptual direction for the band. “I’ve written lyrics for everything that we have right now and it’s feeling pretty good,” he said.

“It feels like the story of the band so far, which is a totally different take on what I’ve been used to writing with Slipknot,” continues the frontman. “But I think because of everything we’ve been through, it’s time to tell that story. It’s going to be everything you want in a Slipknot album, and everything you wouldn’t expect.”

The band’s last album All Hope Is Gone was released in 2008 and in the last six years the Des Moines band and their fans have suffered some devastating losses. In 2010 bassist Paul Gray was found dead in a Des Moines hotel room and earlier this year, drummer Joey Jordison announced his shock departure from the band.

The original announcement of Jordison’s departure cited “personal reasons” as the main catalyst, but later developments revelled the split was not quite as amicable as originally thought. Corey Taylor recently said the only other option to replacing Jordison was “shutting the band down.”
