Sonisphere UK Confirmed For 2013, Lineup Expected By Xmas

The UK leg of Sonisphere will definitely return in 2013, and organisers are hoping to announce the lineup – or at least the first few bands – by Christmas.

Dates are yet to be confirmed, but it’s expected the festival will be held in it’s usual timeslot in July, and at the same venue – Knebworth Park, Stevenage.

Kilmanjaro Live (promoters) CEO Stuart Galbraith told the BBC the news at the UK Festival Conference in London on Monday.

“We’re working on a bill now, hopefully to announce before Christmas. Cancelling it last year was a hiccup.”

Sonisphere’s UK leg was cancelled this year, just a month after its line-up was announced in February. Organisers attributed “a very challenging year” as to the reason for the cancellation.

Queen + Adam Lambert, Kiss and The Darkness were the main drawcards for the event.

Galbrith also admitted at the conference the confirmation of the UK bill came “too late”, this year and the recession meant tickets sold too slowly.

The festival has already locked in dates for Italy and France in 2013, with two Spanish legs in Madrid and Barcelona to be announced shortly.

Iron Maiden have been confirmed as headliners for France and Italy, while Motorhead, Airbourne, Korn and Slayer have already been booked for France.
