Three years on from their acclaimed second album The Gift, Glasgow’s Sons & Daughters have announced details of their their third album, with Mirror Mirror due for a UK release on June 13.
NME.com reports that the four-piece’s latest, out on Domino, sees them working with illustrious Glasgow producer Keith McIvor, aka JD Twitch, who as part of Optimo has gone some way to defining Glasgow’s electric dance/club scene of the past decade.
And how has that effected the Sons & Daughters sound, you may ask. Singer and guitarist Scott Paterson explains, “He has great taste in music, and we also knew we wanted to start using electronics, and he’s really into his dance music.”
He added, “We sound better when we’re more minimal. We wanted everything on the new album to be necessary, no added fluff, and only recording on 16-track,”
In another interesting twist for the new album, it also seems one of cinema’s most famous horror movie directors was an inspiration. Singer Adele Bethel says, “He has great taste in music, and we also knew we wanted to start using electronics, and he’s really into his dance music.”
Sons & Daughters started out in 2003 and released their debut album, Love The Cup, in the same year. It was a full five years until This Gift appeared, establishing the band among the upper echelons of UK indie. They also managed a relatively healthy following in the States.
