Soundwave 2013 Vs. Download 2013

Surely by now everyone has noticed that more and more awesome artists are starting to tour Down Under (regardless of what you’re into). Oh so often we’ve been forced to just accept that “due to unforeseen circumstances”, an artist we’ve all probably (by that stage) already paid to see, won’t be touring anymore. But it looks as though the times, they are a-changin’.

Take a look at the line-up for UK’s legendary Download festival(below). A mecca for fans of rock, and lasting for multiple days, it is seen by many as an ideal oasis. Once again living up to its reputation, Download booked an impressive haul for its 2013 event, including: Slipknot, without a doubt one of the biggest bands around; Queens of the Stone Age, no doubt going to perform some new material; and Korn cos, well, someone has to get bottled. The list goes on for miles, providing a cross section of time-tested legends, and the currently rising. Why, at least half a dozen of the Soundwave 2013 line-up will be performing!

But is it all that great? People are going to take quality over quantity any day, and while the line-up is littered with incredible acts, let’s face it, you’ll have to wade through a lot of crap to get to them. It’s also a good time to mention that most of the headliners have toured here within the past few years, so if a festival busted them out as headliners here, they just wouldn’t pull it off.

I’m assuming everyone is familiar with the line-up for this year’s Soundwave festival? You needn’t look much further than Metallica and Blink 182…already there are two of the biggest bands in the world performing on the same day – this is something so rare that all the other bands that aren’t performing will be watching. And Metallica with The Offspring? That’s so rare that in the US they just started a petition to bring a co-headlining tour with those two bands through the states.

Tickets for Soundwave are around $200 for the day, with Download coming in at £195 or $300 Aussie dollars for at least 2 days. This year they don’t have the option of single tickets. That would come to Soundwave being $50 more a day, but as it sold out national shows, that’s really not an issue to many people.

Sure there and clashes and we’ve had some dropouts, but seriously, fuck it. We’re finally putting on a show that the rest of the world will be jealous of. Bout damn time.
