Spiritbox’s Courtney LaPlante, Legend, Plays Along After Being Mistaken For Poppy At The Grammys

Spiritbox frontwoman Courtney LaPlante has turned an epic fail of an interview on the 2025 Grammys red carpet into a hilariously entertaining moment, after the interviewer mistook her for her fellow Best Metal Performance Grammy Award nominee, Poppy.

The original YouTube clip has since been wiped from the internet (likely out of embarrassment), but plenty of YouTube shorts are still getting around.

“I am Poppy and I am really happy to be here”

The interviewer began the chat by announcing: “We’re here with rock royalty, Poppy!” which naturally triggered a baffled expression from LaPlante.

The interviewer obviously noticed the look on her face, but mistook it as a reaction to being called “rock royalty” as opposed to being called “Poppy”, and thus ploughed ahead by reassuring “Poppy” that she is, in fact, rock royalty!

Then, instead of correcting her, the Spiritbox singer decided to play along.

“I am Poppy,” LaPlante responded. “And I’m so excited to be here and be nominated with Knocked Loose. I really hope we win!”

But she didn’t stop there: LaPlante fully embraced the part for the entire interview, recalling Poppy’s headline-making performance with Knocked Loose on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and even dropping cheeky hints about her true identity.

When asked how many women were nominated in the Metal category, LaPlante quipped: “I haven’t looked into it, but I just always know that it’s time for one of us to win. And I hope it’s either me or Spiritbox. Courtney is amazing”.

You can watch a couple of clips of the moment above and below.

Sadly, neither the fake Poppy nor the real Poppy took home the Grammy, with the 2025 Metal category ultimately awarded to Gojira for their official Olympic Opening Theme for Paris, ‘Mea Culpa (Ah! Ça ira!)’.

Poppy herself, meanwhile, recently wrapped up a massive tour of Australia supporting Bad Omens, while Spiritbox will be releasing their sophomore album Tsunami Sea on Friday, 7th March.
