How good! Everyone’s fave animated band, Gorillaz have surprise dropped a three-track EP today. It features AJ Tracey, Jelani Blackman, Alicaì Harley and Barrington Levy and it’s a ripper.
The EP of course slaps. Sharing it overnight, the band wrote on Instagram, “Meanwhile… a homage to Notting Hill Carnival.”
The Notting Hill Carnival was cancelled this year but lives on through the EP. The EP’s title however comes from the first place the band ever performed: Meanwhile Gardens.
They shared masters from their debut album with Middle Row Records in 2000. Middle Row Records ended up having a soundsystem at Notting Hill Carnival later that year and Gorillaz performed ‘Clint Eastwood’ there.
Gorillaz frontman, 2D says, “Meanwhile Gardens are just round the corner from Memory Lane. If you get to Crawley you’ve gone too far.”
