Swedish theatrical metal maniacs Avatar are officially heading back to Australia this August – and if their last visit taught us anything, it’s that this is not your average night in the pit.
Returning off the back of their 2023 run, Avatar are bringing their full-blown gothic circus back down under in support of their upcoming tenth studio album Don’t Go In The Forest. Expect the usual chaos: razor-sharp riffs, massive singalongs, and frontman Johannes Eckerström in full ringmaster mode – somewhere between unhinged preacher and theatrical overlord.
AVATAR – ‘Don’t Go In The Forest’
If Dance Devil Dance was the moment Australia collectively realised just how hard this band goes live (hi, #1 on the iTunes Rock & Metal chart), this next chapter is shaping up to go even bigger, darker and weirder. The new record leans fully into Avatar’s love of storytelling and world-building – which means these shows won’t just be gigs, they’ll feel like stepping into some cursed, carnivalesque universe where anything could happen (and probably will).
And look, we’ll say it: Avatar might genuinely be one of the most underrated live bands in heavy music right now. No half-measures, no standing around nodding – just pure, theatrical, all-in commitment from the second they hit the stage.
