Sydney’s The Bald Faced Stag has been an institution of the city since 1833, and now it’s going to be home to one of the country’s most loved metal and rock venues, Crowbar.
Yep, the folks behind Brisbane’s Crowbar, which has hosted everyone from Camp Cope to Deafheaven, are expanding down south to the Sydney suburb of Leichardt, hoping to give the city its own metal hub.
The two brains behind the idea, Trad Nathan and Tyla Dombroski, will be relocating to Sydney for the next five years (at least), and after that they’re hoping for the building to be developed and the lease to be extended.
“We’ve both spent a lot of time in Sydney over the years and have watched a lot of venues close down, we don’t want to see this happen to the Stag,” says Dombroski.
“We have an opportunity to rebuild it, and we are going to make that happen!”
“The space is absolutely amazing and the timing is right,” says Nathan.
“We’ve built a strong community for punters and bands at Crowbar in Brisbane, we can’t wait to bring the same values to Sydney!”
The Bald Faced Stag was sold for almost $8 million back in April, after controversy engulfed the former leaseholder when they were accused of not paying artists who played at the venue.
Crowbar Sydney is set to open in December.
