Sydney’s Carriageworks Reveals Full 2018 Program

Sydney’s Carriageworks has unveiled exactly what its 2018 is going to look like, announcing a dynamic year-long program spanning music, contemporary art, dance, performance, screen, food and ideas.

On the music side of things, there’s a huge exhibition by Japanese sound artist Ryoji Ikeda, who’ll be presenting an immersive sound and light work that combines art with quantum physics, dubbed macro micro, across July.

While the Sydney Chamber Opera will partner with internationally renowned Australian composer Liza Lim to create and premiere a brand new work, Sydney-based group Ensemble Offspring will present a program of striking, interdisciplinary music dubbed LONE HEMISPHERES in December, and a lineup of international and Australian experimental artists — including France’s Eliane Radigue and America’s Charlemagne Palestine — will take the stage for the Open Frame showcase in June.

They’ve also got something special in store for next year’s NAIDOC week, partnering with Koori Radio to bring together a showcase of leading Indigenous musicians alongside emerging talent, dubbed KLUB KOORI.

“We are excited to be bringing an extraordinary Program of international works, new commissions and large scale works to Sydney,” says Carriageworks Director Lisa Havilah.

“In 2018 we will continue to increase our investment into our Artistic Program and our support of Australian and international artists.  We look forward to welcoming our growing audiences to experience our most ambitious Program to date.”

Local artist Thelma Plum has also been named next year’s Artist In Residence for Carriageworks’ Solid Ground initiative, which provides education, training and employment pathways for Indigenous Australian youth.

It comes after Carriageworks announced a whopping 1.2 million visitors have engaged with events at the Sydney multi-arts centre across 2017.

Tickets to next year’s events go on sale from tomorrow, Tuesday 28th November at 9am.
