Well, we’ll take it.
R&B goddess SZA has given fans the scoop about her highly anticipated follow-up to 2017’s masterpiece CTRL, and it’s coming sooner than you might think. How soon? “As fuck!”
In a new interview with Kerwin Frost, SZA revealed how her sophomore album is coming along and how she doesn’t feel pressured to ride the wave of CTRL.
“This next album is even more of me being less afraid of who am I when I have no choice? When I’m not out trying to curate myself and contain,” she said.
“I think I might just start dropping loosies. I don’t feel any pressure right now… Everything I’m making is so beautiful and is happening so easily, simply, like without effort. It’s coming out so beautiful, it makes me feel like I did the groundwork. It’s not gonna take four years to figure out how to write well.”
When asked when the album was coming, she simply said “soon as fuck.”
She also revealed some of the big names she’s been working with recently, including the one and only Justin Timberlake.
“So yesterday I was in the studio with Justin Timberlake and that was kind of nuts. We made a really cool song and I couldn’t believe it,” she said.
“We’re on the same label I heard, which I didn’t know until yesterday. And he was like, ‘I wanna work with you and I was like, ‘Why?’ And he was like, ‘Shut up, let’s just make stuff.’ And we did and it was really great.”
She also said that she’s been working with the likes of Jack Antonoff and BROCKHAMPTON.
SZA was just in the country for Splendour In The Grass, but let’s hope it won’t be too long before she’s back with this new music.
