Tame Impala are strongly representing Australia in the list of nominees for NME Awards this year. The group, whose latest album Lonerism is still making waves, have been shortlisted 4 highly coveted accolades at the 2013 event.
Tame will be up against The Foo Fighters, The Killers, Odd Future and Crystal Castles for Best International Band. They will have to fend off Alt-J and Frank Ocean for Best Album, and are up against fellow NME awards debutants Haim for best track with Elephants. Finally, they will be directly against David Bowie and MIA for Best Video.
The Rolling Stones have also been tipped for 4 awards, and it appears no matter how many times you win, it’s still exciting with Mick Jagger telling NME “It’s very nice to be nominated. When I first heard it was four things, I thought, ‘Ooh, blimey! That’s very nice!'” And it’s not a journalists-only thing, it’s not a coterie of closely-knit people choosing. It’s funny, because when we were rehearsing at Wembley Arena last year, it was where we used to do the NME Pollwinners. We remembered, it was the first time we ever played ‘Jumping Jack Flash’, at one of those Pollwinners concerts!”
Other hot awards on the night are sure to be Best Twitter, and Villain of the Year – a fight to the death (not literally, unfortuantly) between The Biebs, Harry Styles, Psy and more.
