Tame Impala Say There’s a Deluxe Edition Of ‘Currents’ On The Way With Bonus B Sides

Tame Impala have taken to Instagram to celebrate the one year anniversary of their hugely successful album Currents, at the same time announcing they’re currently at work on a “Deluxe + B sides” edition of the album for all of us slavering fans dying for more psych pop glory from the band… by which I mean Kevin Parker.

Posting an image of the album’s artwork to Instagram, Parker also wrote a caption acknowledging the album’s impacts on him and fans, as well as teasing the deluxe edition.

“1 year since this album was released! Feels like a lifetime ago but also like it was yesterday at the same time. Needless to say i didn’t predict the effect it would have on my life… and other peoples too it seems…. Endless thank you to everyone who got on board. PS. Deluxe + B sides in the works! Stay tuned..”

Writing, recording, performing and mixing the entire album himself in his home studio, Currents debuted at number 1 on the ARIA Charts here at home, and number 4 in the US, eventually hitting number 2 on the Billboard Top Rock Albums Chart.

The band’s best performing album to date, it saw Parker moving away from the his guitar heavy roots, emphasising synthesisers and dance music forms, which did piss off some fans but, hey, there’ll always be some sad loser bitching about a band progressing their sound (you just have to check the comments on the Insta post). Still you haven’t really made it until you have brutal neckbeards up in arms at your creative decisions.

Considering the new musical direction Tame Impala took on Currents, it’s safe to say there are probably some pretty interesting and out there tracks that got left on the hard drive, so a B-sides collection is actually exciting in this case. No word yet on exactly when to expect it, so we’ll have to sit and simmer.

In the meantime you can check out the full post for yourselves here and relive Tame’s glorious STG 2015 set in our gallery below.
