Taylor Swift Awarded $1 After Winning Groping Lawsuit

Taylor Swift has been awarded one US dollar after winning a lawsuit she filed against a DJ who allegedly groped her at a fan meet-and-greet.

A jury has found that DJ David Mueller did grope the pop star back in 2013, thereby awarding Swift a symbolic USD$1 from Mueller, which she had requested as a sign that the lawsuit was solely about taking a stand against sexual assault.

Mueller sued Swift for defamation back in 2015, claiming that the groping allegation was false and had ruined his career. Swift later countersued for sexual assault, which Mueller denied had taken place.

A jury of six women and two men unanimously found that Swift was in the right. Mueller had asked the jury to award him USD$250,000, claiming that Swift’s mother had a hand in getting him fired from his job at radio station KYGO, but his claim was rejected (as Buzzfeed reports).

A photo of the groping, obtained by TMZ, was used in court. Swift also testified about how Mueller “had a handful of my ass”.

“He stayed attached to my bare ass-cheek as I lurched away from him,” she said (Via AAP). “It was a definite grab. A very long grab.”

During cross-examination by Mueller’s attorney, Swift stood her ground, saying, “I am not going to allow your client to make me feel like it is any way my fault, because it isn’t.”

Since her courtroom win, Swift has released a statement in which she thanks her legal team and speaks up against sexual assault.
