Teen Jesus And The Jean Teasers Share Debut EP + ‘Girl Sports’ Video

Canberra-via-Melbourne-via-Wollongong outfit, Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers, release their debut EP, Pretty Good For a Girl Band, today via Domestic La La Records.

The EP includes the Jean Teasers’ 2021 release, ‘AHHHH!’, and the more recent singles, ‘Miss Your Birthday’ and ‘Girl Sports.’ The music video for ‘Girl Sports’ premiered on the eve of the record’s release. The clip pays homage to the band members’ favourite teen flicks: Clueless (1995), St Trinian’s (2007) and Twilight (2008). Watch it below.

“While the song encapsulates a lot of frustration and anger, we wanted to create a visual element that brought a more light-hearted feel to a song that touches on some pretty frustrating experiences a lot of women and non-males would relate to,” the band said in a statement.

Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers formed in their hometown of Canberra in 2015. The band members – Anna Ryan (vocals/guitar), Neve van Boxsel (drums), Scarlett McKahey (guitar/vocals) and Jaida Stephenson (bass) – were 15 years old at the time. They received early support from triple j Unearthed, and the station’s backing continues. ‘AHHHH!’ landed at #117 in triple j’s Hottest 200 of 2021.

Pretty Good For a Girl Band is out via Domestic La La Records, the indie label run by Violent Soho’s James Tidswell. Tidswell shares production credits on the EP with Alex Lahey. Lahey also co-wrote ‘Miss Your Birthday.’ Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers are taking Pretty Good For a Girl Band on the road in August–September. Dates below.
