Tenacious D To Stage Their Own Comedy/Rock Festival In October

Tenacious D are creating their own comedy-rock festival – but a venue and acts are yet to be confirmed.

One half of the duo – Jack Black – told Rolling Stone that the band are currently working on a one-day event, which is set for October 19 and has been dubbed Festival Supreme.

The duo are in talks to stage the event at Santa Monica Pier in California, but could take the event elsewhere if the talks fall through.

“October 19, circle that in your calendar”, Black said.

“Now there’s no guarantee who’s gonna be on the bill – it might just be Tenacious D and Weird Al (Yankovic). But that’s a long ways off.”

The duo are hoping to convince an all-star lineup of comedy rockers to play at the big event, including Flight of the Conchords, Spinal Tap, Tim Minchin, Lonely Island, Zach Galifianakis, and South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone.

Black let his dream lineup ideas drop whilst discussing whether the D had a rivalry with Flight of the Conchords, similar to Britpop stars Blur and Oasis.

“We actually have been talking about joining forces, because we’ve always wanted to do a double bill. We’re working on a festival, called Festival Supreme.”

“It’ll be a meeting of the minds. It’s gonna be like Mount Rockmore, where you’ve got your Flight of the Conchords, your Lonely Island, your Tenacious D, your Zach Galifianakis, your Spinal Tap, your Eric Idle.”

Tenacious D were last in Australia as support act for the Foo Fighters on their 2011 stadium tour. Let’s hope Michael Gudinski gets out your cheque book and brings the boys and the festival down here – something tells me it would be quite a hit.
