The 2022 Grammy Awards ceremony has been postponed due to the surge in cases of the Omicron COVID-19 variant. The ceremony was originally scheduled to take place this month on Monday, 31st January in Los Angeles. A new date has not yet been announced.
“After careful consideration and analysis with city and state officials, health and safety experts, the artist community and our many partners, the Recording Academy and CBS have postponed the 64th Annual GRAMMY Awards Show,” reads a joint statement issued today.
“The health and safety of those in our music community, the live audience, and the hundreds of people who work tirelessly to produce our show remains our top priority. Given the uncertainty surrounding the Omicron variant, holding the show on January 31 simply contains too many risks. We look forward to celebrating Music’s Biggest Night on a future date, which will be announced soon.”
Today’s announcement marks the second year in a row the Grammys have been postponed due to the coronavirus. Last year’s ceremony was originally slated for 31st January 2021, but due to a spike in COVID-19 cases in Los Angeles was moved to 14th March.
The 2022 Grammy nominations were announced back in November of last year. Artists with multiple nominations included Jon Batiste – with 11 in total – along with Doja Cat, Justin Bieber, H.E.R. (eight each), Olivia Rodrigo and Billie Eilish (seven each).
