The Amity Affliction are officially back in feel-everything-and-throw-down mode, announcing their ninth studio album House Of Cards, and yep – the timing is bang on, with their Aussie regional tour kicking off this Friday.
Due out Friday 24 April via Pure Noise Records, House Of Cards marks a new chapter for Amity, and the first full-length to feature Jonny Reeves as a permanent clean vocalist. If early signs are anything to go by, the added vocal firepower has only sharpened the band’s trademark push-and-pull between absolute emotional wreckage and stadium-sized catharsis.
The Amity Affliction – ‘House of Cards’
The band have dropped the album’s title track as its first taste – and it’s a heavy one, in every sense. Written by frontman Joel Birch about his relationship with his siblings and their late mother, ‘House Of Cards’ doesn’t shy away from trauma, dysfunction or grief. Instead, it stares it down head-on, pairing crushing riffs with some of Birch’s most raw and direct lyricism to date. The accompanying video, directed by Daniel Daly, leans right into that emotional weight, making it clear this record isn’t here to muck around.
Birch has been candid about the song’s origins, explaining that while the relationship with his mother was deeply fractured, her passing ultimately brought him and his siblings closer together through shared understanding. It’s bleak, it’s honest, and it hits like a gut punch – classic Amity, but with a new sense of perspective and clarity running through it.
All of this lands as the band gear up to hit the road across regional Australia, launching a 21-date run with mates In Hearts Wake and RedHook. Starting in Queensland this week and rolling right through into March, it’s a proper victory lap for Aussie fans – and a very loud warm-up before the album lands.
As if that wasn’t enough, The Amity Affliction have also been locked in for Hellbound 2027, joining an absolutely feral lineup alongside Parkway Drive, Alpha Wolf, I Killed The Prom Queen and Thy Art Is Murder.
With five ARIA #1 albums, over a billion streams and two decades of emotional damage under their belt, House Of Cards is shaping up to be another defining moment for one of Australia’s most enduring heavy bands.
