The Dead Weather’s “Unique Long-Term Plan” For New Material, Album Expected 2015

Jack White‘s The Dead Weather are sticking their collective middle finger square in the face of the modern music industry, revealing their plans to embark on a “unique, long-term plan” for their recently recorded material.

After revealing back in August that they were in the studio, the band – White, along with Alison Mosshart, Dean Fertita, and Jack Lawrence – have now announced they will be releasing a series of double A-sides between now and 2015, when they will finally release a new album.

The first such release will be a 7-inch containing singles Open Up (That’s Enough) and Rough Detective. A snippet of Open Up (That’s Enough) can be found below, but if you’re waiting for the full track to appear online, you’re going to be waiting a while. Going against what is now common convention, White and co will be releasing the new material physically first, and only then will digital copies to follow.

White’s own Third Man Records will usher in the releases, with the first double A-Side being released exclusively through Third Man’s Vault Subscription series.

On the new material, the label explains:

“It’s a unique long-term plan for new music from this incendiary group… The goal is that physical copies are out there first…. [The new songs] are unlike anything else the band has ever done and are both ample reminders of the ferocity of this motley collection of low-lifes, grifters and ne’er-do-wells. These songs are not throw-aways. These songs are not demos. These songs are not outtakes”

The single series is expected to occupy the band until 2015, where they will drop the long-awaited full-length album set to contain all the previously released singles with “many more album-only tracks”.
