Brisbane outfit The Good Ship have announced that after six joyous years together they’ve decided to amicably call it a day, but not before two final blowout farewell shows, dubbed La Petite Mort.
Brisbane’s favourite sailors will wrap up the The Good Ship project this year, leaving behid a legacy of three albums, 10 singles, 14 members at various times throughout their history and more than 150 live shows.
What began as a side project for songwriters John Meyer and Daz Gray, soon grew into a fully fledged multi-piece band, with a huge lineup and nautical theme who pioneered their very own genre – PoCoFoCa – or, porno country folk cabaret.
Fan favourite songs include, 6000 Cocks, These Are A Few Of My Favourite Flings, Roger The Cabin Boy and live gem Don’t Kiss Me With Your Lips. They will also be remembered for their theatrical stage musical, The Seven Seas, which debuted at Brisbane Powerhouse in February 2013.
“We’ve achieved so many things I never thought possible for a band of this size and nature, says Meyer. “International touring, 3 full length albums, and a ridiculously loyal following.
“The thing I’m most proud of though is the good humour and love within the band. We’ve been through some hard times and plenty of setbacks and challenges but we’ve always managed to have a good laugh.”
After spending last year delivering blistering performances at Festival Of The Sun and Falls Festival, thir own Sea Monster national tour, supporting The Lumineers and working on new material, The Good Ship are ready to go out with an almighty bang with their final La Petite Mort shows.
The first ‘petite mort’ (French for little death) takes place this May in their adopted second home of Melbourne and the final curtain in their true hometown of Brisbane. See dates and details below.
