The Rasmus have unexpectedly announced that they will perform in Australia for the very first time next year. The Finnish pop-rock band, best known for their global 2004 hit ‘In The Shadows’, will tour the east coast of Australia in a whirlwind 72-hour visit, with three shows in three days in three cities. The band’s tour schedule, as well as pre-sale and ticketing information, can be found below.
The Australian dates are part of the band’s Weirdo world tour, which comes in support of their forthcoming 11th studio album of the same name. The album is set for release on Friday, September 12th via Playground Music. Four singles have been released from the album thus far: ‘Rest In Pieces’ in October 2024, ‘Creatures Of Chaos’ in March, ‘Break These Chains’ in May and ‘Love Is A Bitch’ – which was officially released today (July 11th) to coincide with the announcement.
In a press statement, the band’s lead vocalist Lauri Ylönen noted that Weirdo was created with the intention to “defend and praise the ones who are different from the masses, and proudly being themselves as they are”. “It has been our philosophy from the very beginning,” he said.
“I’ve always felt like an outsider not fitting the norm. I’ve been called a weirdo, misfit and a freak. That used to make me angry, but not anymore. It’s become my source of strength and confidence. I’ve realised the power of it. All the people I find exciting and inspiring are somehow strange. We, the Weirdos, unite and feed off people’s judging attitudes. The fact is, they’re just afraid of us. Afraid of our capability to create new and change the future. Are you a Weirdo? Join us.”
The Rasmus – ‘In The Shadows’
Having originally formed in 1996 in Helsinki, The Rasmus broke globally with the release of their fifth studio album Dead Letters. Its lead single and the band’s signature song, ‘In The Shadows’, peaked at number 23 on the ARIA Singles Chart and was ranked at number 90 in ARIA’s Top 100 Singles list of 2004. It topped the charts in Finland and Germany, while also reaching the top five in the UK, Austria, Sweden, Italy and Switzerland. Dead Letters was later certifiied quadruple platinum globally.
