The soundtrack to the latest game in the Guitar Hero franchise has just been announced and, sure enough, it’s a string-shredder’s button masher’s wet dream of rock, hard rock and heavy metal. Guitar Hero Live‘s initial 24-song playlist includes tunes by The Rolling Stones, Green Day, System Of A Down, Pierce the Veil, Judas Priest and The Black Keys.
But as well as testing their guitar grits against songs by legendary axemen like Dimebag Darrell (Pantera), John Frusciante (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Mark Tremonti (Alter Bridge) and Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine), players will also be able to tackle songs by other guitar heroes like, uh, Skrillex and, er, The Lumineers.
Point is, there’s something for everyone OK? And Jamie Jackson of FreeStyle has shone more light onto the game’s musical choices, in an interview with NME.
“It’s been 10 years since the first Guitar Hero game came out. When you think of it like that, and think about how much the musical landscape has changed since then – that’s where we’ve been able to explore some new types of musical style as well,” he said. “Guitar music is broader than it’s ever been – so we’re reflecting that in the range of music on offer.”
Guitar Hero Live also boasts a bunch of new upgrades, and will be available on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Wii U and mobile devices for the first time when it’s officially released, later this year.
