The Stranglers have announced their return to Australia for March 2025, expanding their 50 Years In Black world tour to commemorate a half-century since the band’s formation in 1974. A full list of the band’s upcoming tour dates, as well as pre-sale and ticketing information, can be found below.
In addition to performing in the major capital cities, the band are also planning a return to New Zealand. Ahead of touching down in Sydney to commence the tour, The Stranglers will play three Aotearoan shows: Auckland’s Powerstation on Thursday March 13th, Wellington’s Meow Nui on Saturday March 15th and Christchurch’s Town Hall on Sunday, March 16th. More information on these shows can be found by visiting the official Stranglers website.
The 50 Years In Black tour will mark the band’s third tour of Australia this decade. The band toured in February 2020, just weeks before the COVID-19 pandemic hit. It was the band’s final tour with longtime keyboardist Dave Greenfield, who contracted COVID while in hospital for heart issues and died in May 2020. The band ultimately returned just over three years later for a run of shows in April 2023 – including one of the final shows at Newcastle’s Cambridge Hotel before its closure.
The Stranglers – ‘Always The Sun’
The Stranglers originally formed in 1974 in Guildford, a town in the west of Surrey. Only bassist and vocalist Jean-Jaques Burnel remains from the band’s classic line-up, with original lead vocalist Hugh Cornwell having left the band in 1990 and founding drummer Brian “Jet Black” Duffy having passed away in 2022. Cornwell went on to pursue a solo career following his departure from The Stranglers, and toured Australia with his band earlier this month.
