The Wombats Release Brand New Single ‘Your Body Is A Weapon’

Inspired by the chance spotting of a down-on-his-luck paparazzo outside of the recent BRIT Awards, Your Body Is A Weapon is the latest single from Liverpool trio The Wombats. Judging by the serious hook and massive chorus, this ditty is sure to be a fan favourite on their recently announced third studio album.

Your Body Is A Weapon marks the first new material from the group since the release of 2011’s chart killer The Wombats present… This Modern Glitch. If you found yourself jamming along particularly hard to that album you’re in luck. For round three, The Wombats will be returning to Barefoot Studios, where they recorded their sophomore effort, and once again enlisting the help of QOTSA producer Eric Valentine.

During an interview with the NME, frontman Matthew Murphy was kind enough to shed some light on the ambiguous subject matter of Your Body Is A Weapon, explaining that it’s loosely based on one poor pap stuck photographing One Direction member Harry Styles. Said Murphy:

“The song is loosely based on a ‘pap’ I witnessed outside a BRIT Awards after party, he was taking a picture of Conor Styles or whoever but looked thoroughly disinterested. It led me to feel slightly sorry for him…We recorded the song in Los Angeles with Eric Valentine, over the course of 10 days in July.

“It was an easy track to record, although a few lyric changes were made to make it sound slightly less ‘creepy’. At the end of the session, Eric said ‘I’m really happy with how this has turned out, there is a quality to the lower-mid range that I have been searching for for years, and I think I’ve got it!’ – we have absolutely no idea what this means.”

This is all the info fans have received about the third album from The Wombats so far, but updates are sure to come through thick and fast now that the ball is rolling.
