A mixed bag of some of Australia’s favourite artists from across the genre spectrum are teaming up for a live musical super-collab, and it’s all for the love of beer.
Triple J’s Hack host and Client Liaison’s slap bass president Tom Tilley will join forces with Grinspoon’s Phil Jamieson, Bluejuice’s Jake Stone, The Snowdroppers‘ Jeremy Davidson, You Am I‘s Andy Kent and Davey Lane, Wolf And Cub‘s Brock Fitzgerald and Wade Keighran, All Our Exes Live In Texas‘s Elana Stone, Katie Wighton, Hannah Crofts and Georgia Mooney, The John Steel Singers‘ Kirsty Tickle and loads more to perform a setlist of their favourite drinking songs for a special AF event to kick off Sydney’s Craft Beer Week.
A splash of Young Henrys brew will see this unlikely collective of musical misfits transformed into the Bar Flying Circus Band, a rock n’ roll megasquad with the power to entertain the city’s most pov beer lovers for hours on end at Young Henrys Rock & Roll Circus – which is set to go down at Sydney’s favourite dive bar Frankies Pizza By The Slice next Thursday, 27th October – FOR FREE.
Frankies co-owner Jordan McDonald tells Music Feeds that after noticing this year’s Craft Beer Week programme was packed full of “expensive, ticketed things”, Frankies and their m8s at Newtown swillhouse Young Henrys wanted to brew together a bash that was more in line with the rock n’ roll spirit of both brands.
“We wanted to come together on something that was beer-focused but was also heaps of fun,” he says, adding that getting all the artists on board was “super easy”.
“Everyone involved is psyched,” he says. “And they’re all good-time heavy drinkers, which makes it even better.”
On the subject of how everything’s gonna run on the night, the big dawg explains that all the artists are going to pick the songs they most want to sing, and there’s gonna be a heap of collabs as the revolving-door allstar lineup keeps spinning into the wee hours.
Bluejuice frontman Jake Stone, who’s performing a tune with his sister as well as playing host AKA “ringmaster” for the evening, says fans can expect to hear “some of your favourite classic rock and radio tunes from the 70s, 80s and 90s”.
