Tonight Alive absolutely smashed out a pop-punk rendition of Savage Garden‘s classic ‘Affirmation’ for triple J’s Like A Version segment this morning.
On why they chose the song, frontwoman Jenna McDougall said it’s because of the consciousness within Savage Garden’s lyrics. “We call our style ‘conscious rock’,” she said.
“Our lyrics are super important and our message is at the forefront of what Tonight Alive does. So, we really appreciate pop music and music from the past that had a conscious message. ‘Affirmation’ and Savage Garden…most of their discography did. We’re just really big fans of the message in the song and we want our fans to hear it.”
On top of that cover, they also performed their anthemic original track ‘Temple’ from their latest album Underworld which dropped in January this year.
