Fellow musicians have started to pay tribute to Soundgarden, Audioslave and Temple Of The Dog frontman Chris Cornell after he unexpectedly passed away in Detroit at age 52.
Cornell’s publicist has confirmed that the musician died on Wednesday night, the same night that Soundgarden played a show in Detroit.
Fellow rocker Dave Navarro led the tributes, writing, “SO SO stunned to hear about Chris Cornell! Such a terrible and sad loss! Thinking of his family tonight! RIP.”
Many are also noting how much of an influence Cornell was musically as one of the pioneers of the grunge movement.
Danny Worsnop of Asking Alexandria called Cornell one of his “biggest influences”, and producer Butch Walker credited him for helping to “inspire me to evolve and change musically”.
Many Australians have also been deeply saddened by the loss of a legend.
AJ Maddah, the founder of Soundwave Festival, farewelled his “beautiful friend”. Maddah booked Soundgarden to play Soundwave Festival back in 2015.
