triple j Unearthed are offering emerging artists the opportunity to “level up” their music careers by offering a number of grants. The grants are part of ABC’s wider Fresh Start Fund, designed in response to the “unprecedented impact of COVID-19 on the Australian music community,” according to a press statement.
Referencing the impact that coronavirus has had on artists, currently lacking a source of income and opportunities, Unearthed have acknowledged that support is needed to help independent Australian musicians “build a sustainable career and continue to create incredible local content.”
There will be 15 grants offered in total, offering funding to a diverse range of artists throughout Australia. Five grants will be offered to five artists across the categories of Band, Solo, Hip Hop, Heavy and Producers/Dance/Electronic. Two grants will be offered to Indigenous artists. 8 grants will be offered to artists based in regional areas – one for each state and territory.
Up to $7000 is available in funding per grant, and funds can be spent on “multiple facets of the artist’s career development”, such as recording a new song, instruments, home studio recording equipment or music video production.
To be eligible, you must have at least one song uploaded to triple j Unearthed. Emerging artists can apply for a triple j Unearthed Level Up Grant by heading here to the Unearthed website. Applications are open from and close at midnight on Sunday, 7th June.
